Mrs. Cynthia Brooks (A - Gon)
I am Cynthia Brooks, and I am very excited to be a part of the NGC counseling team! I have been in education for over 8 years, and this will be my first year as a school counselor. Prior to working at the Hutto Ninth Grade Center, I worked as a Bilingual Special Education teacher in Hutto ISD, Austin ISD, and Lasara ISD. My teaching experience includes working with children ranging from 3 - 21 years of age, specifically in the areas of communication, behavior, and social skills. I have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Spanish and a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Texas Pan American (now UTRGV). Additionally, I have earned my School Counselor certification and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Angelo State University in Texas.
I am a firm believer that anyone can achieve their dreams and goals through hard work, advocacy, and personal-growth. Throughout my career, I have made it my mission to share this belief with my students; and it has been my passion to guide them to believe that they can achieve the impossible by equipping them and their families with the important skills and resources needed to reach their academic, social, and emotional goals. Ninth grade is a critical year in a student's life in which they will become aware of the responsibilities and demands of high school and adult life. I am excited to support students through this journey by working with a team of dedicated individuals including teachers, staff, students, and families and ensuring the development of critical skills by providing academic advising, classroom guidance, graduation planning, and counseling. It takes a village, but together we will ensure that each and every student is “Above the Line!”
